Welcome to Red BalL!

This is the first stage of tennis where the players from 4-8 years are learning to serve, rally and score with a slow ball (sponge/red).

Game Plan Sports have a full red ball programme on offer for those who have never hit a ball to those striving to play at a county or national standard.

Children can start off in our beginners squads and progress through the different stages…

Beginner - Learning the game, showing an interest in tennis

Development - Developing technical & tactical skills, learning to compete & aspiring to play for the club

Academy - Aspiring to compete at county level / national level. Will be competing regularly externally

ABOUT RED BALL:

Q: What ball is used?

A: A foam or felt ball is used which is 75% slower than a yellow ball.

Q: What size court is red ball played on?

A: A court with dimensions of 11m x 5.5m or 12m x 6m. It’s fine to use badminton court lines.

Q: What height is the net?

A: The net is at a height of 80cm (in the middle).

Q: What racket is best to use?

A: A shorter racket of 43cm – 58 cm (17″ –  23″) should be used depending on the size and strength of the player.
